Waiting for Spring

I'm sitting here at my desk watching the snow falling outside my window. . . .

And I was thinking about Spring.  I know much of the country has had more than its fair share of winter this year and many of you are also eager for greenery and flowers!  So I wanted to send you to my very first Morning Musing's post--one of my favorites--and hope it helps tide you over until Spring does finally arrive.  Be sure to click on the link to the accompanying music. . . .

  1. How gratifying for you to look back at the beginning of something that is so full of good things! I saw the date and my own Shire Garden journal began a year later in 2013!
Writing about gardening ~ with the odd diversion and digression ~ has been one of the most rewarding ventures upon which I have ever embarked. Amongst other things, it has been the root of many new friendships and I have learned much from reading the words of others, such as those written by you.
Few things nurture the spirit more than nature, and {as you say} it can be as small as a single pot.
    Great music too!

    1. That's a great compliment coming from a dedicated gardener like you! Thank you, Deb. I'm really eager to get into my garden this year. We need to replace our falling-down fence and I want to refurbish my flower beds. I put in too many Hostas and they spread like crazy, then turn brown by midsummer because they're not in the shade. I have too many plants planted in the wrong place! I need to be a little more head-guided and a little less heart-guided in my garden. :-)

  2. It's fun to be able to look back at old blog posts. Your very first post was lovely! We're already immersed in spring here. The leaves are popping out on the trees, my crocus and snowdrops have been up for a couple weeks now, and it's so warm I've been tempted to throw some kale seeds into one of my garden boxes just to see if they survive. :-)

  3. Well, there's hope for us here south of the border if you've got Spring already! Unless, the weather pattern has turned topsy turvy and this is the new normal. Kristie, you need to post some real-time photos of your flowers for the rest of us, please.

  4. Well you are quite a tease today, Cathy. Your gardens are just beautiful--Spring looks so far away after looking out my windows today. It has been a mild winter for us considering what others have had, but February and March have been quite snowy and icy. I can't wait to get into the garden, but it will be a while I'm afraid. I'm just plain tired of being cooped up. Pretty soon (HOPEFULLY) I'll be able to get my hands dirty, and I can hardly wait! ♥

    1. Hi Martha Ellen. Come hot and humid July I'll republish all my posts about the snow we're having. It's still coming down strong here. We have at least 8 inches at the moment. How much do you have?

    2. Cathy, it looks to be 4 or 5 inches so far. It started later for us than you, and began as sleet. It's coming down at the rate of 2 inches per hour they say. I'm not wild about my grandson driving in this, so we had him cancel work for this evening. The temps have really dropped --stay warm and cozy. ♥

    3. Good call. I'm glad that my sons were able to work from home or were given the day off.

  5. Hope Springs Eternal! Even we have had winter this year, with a total of 3 lovely ice storms and one pretty dusting of snow. And it has been cold. Most of us are really ready for spring and a few warmer temps. My barn cats have spent most of the winter in the barn and they are beginning to waddle when they walk! They need to be outside chasing the sunshine! I am itching to get outside and clean up the flower beds. I am hoping for a real spring, that lasts longer than two weeks with hot weather on it's heels!
Stay warm. Think of all that moisture you will have when all your snow melts.

    1. Yes, Chris, I'm very glad for the moisture. And because we've had below normal temperatures the snow is helping protect my plants. If it's got to be in the one-digit temperatures at least I have the pretty snow to look out on. I hope you have a real Spring, too. I much prefer this than it being too hot to be outside!

  6. What a much-needed shot-in-the-arm this post was, Cathy. A real tonic for those of us with Winter-poisoning. All that luscious green! It was almost blinding, compared to the weeks and weeks of white we've had. And the videos with their sounds of birds, the air, insects buzzing etc. Almost an out-of-body experience. Spring is in for one of the most enthusiastic welcomes she's ever received this year. Even people who've barely noticed it in the past are going to look around in wonder and appreciation. We're supposed to have a warm-up into the mid-40s here early next week. I can't wait to get my car washed, see people who aren't encased from head-to-toe in down and fleece, see black pavement in the driveways where I live. They've been covered over with snow and ice for so long. Anyway thanks for today's post. Twas very uplifting for this Spring-starved soul. Take care and talk to you soon. xoxo

    1. Janet, I'm glad to oblige. We are going to get up into the 40's next week, too. Yesterday it was 7 degrees and snowed 10.5 inches here. I think it's the teasers this winter or warming up then dropping back into the teens and below that has made this winter seem so bad.
