I've been decking my rooms with garlands decorated with fruit and birds.  I usually do my dining room in all white, but this year I decided to use the traditional colors of green and red.  I started with the dining room. . . .

This is what it looked like outside my window as I took down my Winter decor and put up the Spring decor this past Monday....

It was St. Patrick's Day and I decided I was done with Winter even if the weather wasn't!  I had my own evidence from the planter I overwintered in the window that Spring was here ....coleus, petunias, and verbena were blooming....

Getting Ready for Christmas

Getting ready for Christmas in our family starts with going to a Christmas Tree farm and cutting down our tree.   We started this tradition with our first Christmas in 1969 when it was just the two of us and continued it with our three boys.  Now we are back to just the two of us and I finally get to choose which one we get.   We found the only farm, I think, which offers Hemlocks.  I fell in love with them because they look so delicate....

We just got our tree today so I can show you what I've done throughout the house.  My daughter-in-law, Paola, and her sister, Marijose, decorated it for me.  Isn't it beautiful....

Christmas City USA

♫O Little Town of Bethlehem♫

We visited Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, known as Christmas City USA, last week.  The area was settled by Moravians in 1741 and named Bethlehem by visiting Count Zinzendorf, a pietist nobleman from Saxony, who, in 1722, had given them refuge on his estate in Saxony before their migration to Georgia in 1735.  

One of the yearly events is the outdoors market called Weihnachtsmarkt (pronounced vy-naukts-markt) held in the historic section....
