Out and About - August 2015

August has been all about getting ready for the Maryland Chapter of the Tasha Tudor Museum Society's Tasha Tudor 100th Birthday Celebration on the 28th.  Even my View Outside My Window post was about my plans for the upcoming celebration.

We've been needing a new roof put on the house so we scheduled it on the 10th to get that out of the way. . . .

View Outside My Window - August

It was February and there was snow on the ground the last time I showed you the view out this window next to my drawing table. . . .

Out and About - July 2015

We did a lot this month that I didn't photograph so I don't have much to show you.    But this is what I do have.....a visit to Brookside Gardens where we went in the Butterfly house. . . .

Out and About - May 2015

Our son, who had been in the hospital for two weeks, was released on the first day of May and is doing very well.  I have an abundance of Olivia June pictures since besides babysitting every week this month, we saw her on Mothers Day.  Here she is playing with Gabriel's treat ball, then offering it to him. . . .

MD Chapter TTMS May Gathering

For May's calendar in Rosemary for Remembrance Tasha Tudor quotes Mark Twain, "Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy you must have somebody to divide it with."

Out and About - April 2015

April began quite normally, but you will soon learn why I chose this music this month.  We've started babysitting Olivia June every Wednesday.  Here is a collage of those visits. . . .

An Afternoon with Tasha Tudor

Several members of the Maryland Chapter of the Tasha Tudor Museum Society gathered today to hear Tasha Tudor's "Gentle Wit & Wisdom."  Even though we had to settle for Tasha's visit on a cassette tape, we felt she was sitting at the end of my dining room table talking about her life as we made cut-wool rabbits. . . .

Maple Syrup Festival

Several members of the Maryland Chapter of the Tasha Tudor Museum Society gathered at Cunningham Falls State Park in Thurmont, Maryland last Saturday for the Park's annual Maple Syrup demonstration.   Maple sugaring was one of the things Tasha Tudor featured in several of her books:  A Time to Keep, Around the Year, Seasons of Delight.  This drawing of hers is in Mary Mason Campbell's book, The New England Butt'ry Shelf Almanac. . . .

Out and About - February 2015

February is a short month, but I think it's been the longest month on record for me.  It's the month of our youngest's birthday, our anniversary, and Valentine's Day.  I needed to have some dental work done, but that was all that was on our agenda.  The month started off quietly enough as I finished preparations for my Tasha Tudor gathering on the 5th.  We made Sparrow Post boxes and Valentines. . . . .

MD Chapter TTMS Valentine Gathering

The Maryland Chapter of the Tasha Tudor Museum Society met today to celebrate Valentine's Day.  In her book, All For Love, Tasha Tudor writes, "Valentine's Day in our home centers on the Sparrow Post, where there is always interesting mail on February 14th for each member of the family.  Postmaster is Augustus Sparrow....The miniature mail is, of course, just the right size for his customers, who are mainly dolls, plush bears, cut-wool rabbits and plush ducklings."

Out and About - January 2015

January's departure caught me unaware.  I woke up this morning and realized it's FEBRUARY.  I've back-dated this post so that it will show up in my January archives.....a girl has to stay organized!  And that is what I did a lot of this month--organized and decluttered my desk once I finished catching up on my photo albums for last year.  I started the month, though, going into town to look for marked-down Christmas items and found this bird's nest.  I decorated my Christmas tree this past Christmas with birds and things from nature and I had thought it would be nice to include a bird's nest, so when I found this at half-price, you can imagine my excitement.   I promptly added to my tree since we were leaving it up until after 12th Night. . . .

Tasha Tudor Potluck

The Maryland Chapter of the Tasha Tudor Museum Society held a potluck dinner the other night to celebrate Twelfth Night (only it was Ninth Night in our case).  The receipts (Tasha's New England word for recipe) all came from her cookbook.  Those who were able to attend took home a recipe at our last gathering and prepared one of the following:
  • Nancy's Hot Cheese Rounds
  • Stuffed Eggs
  • Salad with French Dressing
  • Baking-Powder Biscuits
  • Beef Stew
  • Pineapple Upside-Down Cake
  • Chocolate Cookies
Each member was to bring a guest.  Those who came brought their husband.  Unfortunately two couples had to bow out due to change of plans or illness, so I set the table for ten. . . .

Waterford Fair

The October outing for the Maryland Chapter of the Tasha Tudor Museum Society was to the 71st annual Waterford Fair last week.  The little village of Waterford, VA closes their streets to car traffic and opens it up to hoards of people eager to experience a bit of colonial America.  Waterford was settled in 1733 by a Quaker from Bucks County, PA.  It soon became a thriving farming community centered around the Janney Mill.  You can read more about the history of the community here and how they have been preserving their community's view.

There were four houses open to us that day, but only one let me take photos inside.  I didn't photograph very many craft booths either because of their "no photography" signs.   But I did get lots of photos of the charming houses.  Below is a slideshow of my photos of the day with music from two artists that were playing that day, Bob Bellamy and Wendy Barlow.  If you love their music, as I do (I bought 2 CDs), you can purchase it here.  To view full screen, once you click on the Play ➤ , click on the YouTube icon.  This will give you a better quality picture.  Then click on the 4-corner box in lower right-hand corner to go full screen. . . .

I also made this little video of the one-man band and friends seen in the slideshow. . . .

Out and About - September

September brought just as much Out as About.  We babysat Olivia every other Monday.  She has two teeth!  Reaches for everything.  Squeals in delight.  Can sit up with only a little support.  Move backwards in the walker.  And what I love most of all smiles with delight when she sees me ☺. . . .

Out and About - August

I pretty much spent the month preparing for the first meeting of the Maryland Chapter of the Tasha Tudor Museum Society.  I made a poster and found a few places in town that let me post it.  I also sent it to my paper along with a write-up.  I was really quite shocked that a reporter contacted me and said she'd like to attend the meeting and write a story about it.  Plus, a photographer was coming.  So with the local advertisement completed I started reading all the biographical books on Tasha, watched the videos, and went through most of her books looking for ideas for our meetings. . . .
