Martha's Vineyard Carriage House

We just got back from a week on Martha's Vineyard.  Our stay was enhanced by the charming carriage house we rented, just 3 blocks from downtown Vineyard Haven.  This first post will be about the house.  Subsequent posts will be about the various places we visited.

"Our" little house was behind our host, Rosemary's house.  We caught an earlier ferry from Woods Hole, MA, and were able to check in by 1:00.  We'd had torrential rain to drive through, but by the time we got to the ferry it was just drizzling.  Once on the island it had pretty much cleared and was just cloudy....

We've arrived!

Even the entry way is charming....

I love the faux bushes in the window box--an idea to copy....

These are the windows on the side of the house....

These chairs are in the side yard.  So pretty....

What's this?  We're being greeted by a neighbor....

Hello, kitty cat....

She's telling me to follow her, so I do....

And I discover this delightful little garden on the other side of the house....

I follow it around to the back to find a small sitting area....

But that must wait!  We have the house to see.  That is the door we came in....

And this is the real brick floor that greeted us.  Fabulous!....

This is the view from the door of the downstairs.  You can see our little kitchen tucked in the corner....

And look at that french door to the garden!  You can see the little sitting area just waiting for me....

Look!  There's the stairs to our bedroom....

But first I must take one more look at the living room from the stair landing.  Oh, I see a Bose on that shelf beneath the dishes display.  I will have to look for CDs to play in it....

I head up the stairs....

Rosemary is an Interior Designer and she has chosen the perfect fabrics for this charming Island Carriage House....

This window, under the eaves, looks out onto the driveway.  What!?  No curtains?  But I don't care who sees me in my nightgown--I'm on vacation....

The bathroom is tucked under the eaves, too....

I see I even have a desk at which to write....

It's evening now.  We've gone to the grocery store and buy our supper and eat it at the little dining table....

Now it's morning and the flowers I bought at the grocery store add just the right touch to our home away from home....

The morning sun pours in through the french doors and highlight the beautiful flowers....

I take them outside with me....

But first, you must see the view I have from my little table....

I drink my coffee, read my devotionals, and write in my journal....

SO lovely....

It is evening now and I must capture the view into our little home....

On Saturday we go to the Farmer's Market.  I can't resist these flowers....

They bring me much joy as I write about my week on Martha's Vineyard....

One lone flower from Rosemary's Rose of Sharon hovers above my little table....

....as though to bear witness to my time here....

It is early and the moon has not been escorted on it's way yet by the sun....

I linger awhile in the garden....

Does Rosemary's neighbor know these little pumpkins have escaped from her garden to Rosemary's?....

There is a gate further down the fence...they must be friends and are more than happy to share....

Our last meal the night before we leave.  A real feast of Island food....

It's time to leave....I want to remember the essence of our little carriage house so I capture it on video for one last look....

I highly recommend Rosemary's Carriage House.  It can be rented through Martha's Vineyard Vacation Rentals Sales and can be found here.

  1. I'm trying again to comment, as I had trouble yesterday with 'select profile.' In case this actually comes through, I just want to let you know I'm enjoying these posts about Martha's Vineyard and especially the music accompanying them. I discovered your blog through your comment on Susan Branch's post on William Morris. I WILL be visiting you again; thanks for sharing!
