Martha's Vineyard - Day 6

Journal Entry:  6:02 a.m.  The sun is just rising now.   6:08 a.m.  The moon has not left the morning sky.   6:13 a.m.  A bee--no 2 bees are visiting my flowers I brought out to the little table....I hear a bird tweeting, another cawing.  There is traffic noise.  The air is chilly--a light breeze.
It smells damp in addition to feeling damp.  A car horn just honked.  Ken is making breakfast-making noises.  I'm wondering what this day will hold--what we will do with it.

Ken wears his new swimsuit under his clothes and we drive out to Tashmoo Beach instead of walking the path.  It is 7:25 and the sun is rising higher in the sky....

....but it is too windy and too cold to go into the water....

....so we walk along the beach of the lake....look what I find....

From there we drive to West Chop Woods and hike the Blue trail....

As we start down the path we encounter a wild turkey and her brood....

We decide to take the red trail when we come to this junction.  I look at the arrow for the trail we just left and try to decipher it.  Then I focus my eyes differently and finally see the two arrows....

We stop at the Black Dog Bakery Cafe to buy sandwiches and head for Lambert's Cove.  I spy this statue at the head of a driveway and find out later it was once the entrance to Chicamoo Gallery....

Because it is after Labor Day we are allowed access to the beach and to park in the visitor lot.  We walk the short distance along a wooded, then sandy path....

Soon it opens up to the Vineyard Sound....

I find a niche to lay my blanket....

While Ken heads for the water....

He takes a video from the water.  I am reading more from "Gift From the Sea"....

The Elizabeth Islands off Cape Cod are in the distance.  I zoom in on this 2-masted schooner....

After eating our sandwiches on the beach, we head for home to nap and then drive around Vineyard Haven stopping at Net Results Fish Market.  Ken is determined to have his fresh-caught lobster.  I check the menu so I don't have to return with him later when he orders our take-out supper.  I need to wash my hair again....

So many to choose from....

Yes, a feast indeed....

"The dancers who are perfectly in time never destroy 'the winged life' in each other or in themselves...Perfect poise on the beat...in time with the music...poised directly on the present step as it comes...How can we learn to live through the ebb-tides of one's existence?...I must remember to see with island eyes."--Anne Morrow Lindbergh

  1. Day 6 already ... I don't know about you, but I'm not ready for this to end! It's so nice to enjoy the Vineyard through your visit. Thanks again for your delightful posts.
