Bringing Life to Sculpture

A friend's post about the bronze sculpture outside her library gave me the idea to post photos of the sculptures we've had the privilege to come upon in our travels.  This is our library's sculpture....
C. Burr Artz Public Library, Frederick, MD

Whenever we found a sculpture we'd try to pose someone with it. Some of these were taken many years ago....
Daffy Duck, Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston
John Horrigan, Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston

Our Founding Fathers, Philadelphia, PA
Woody Allen, Oviedo, Spain (taken by one of our sons)
George Mason, Washington, DC
Kermit with Jim Henson, University of Maryland, College Park
Library, Bethlehem, PA
Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt, Hyde Park, NY
James & Dolley Madison, Montpelier, Orange, VA

Einstein, Washington, DC
Memorial to children killed at a train crossing in 1959, Mountain Lake Park, MD

These last three were taken at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ.  They are Seward Johnson's sculptures of famous paintings.  I will be doing a separate post about this amazing collection of sculptures at some future time....
Chez Le Père Lathuile - Manet
Luncheon of the Boating Party - Renoir
Claude Monet painting "Terrace at Sainte-Adresse"

Do you make it a point to take photos of yourself and others with sculptures?  Where and who have they been?

  1. Love your photos, Cathy! And, yes, we DO take photos of bronze sculptures with or without people in tthe pictures. A couple of years ago we were in Rapids City, South Dakota with our daughter and grandson. They have a Presidents walk downtown where you can see bronze statues of all the Presidents. Our grandson had great fun posing alongside each president. I don't know the sculptor, though. Our botanical garden has a few as well as a ton that we used to live in when we were in Illinois. I have a metal sculpture in my yard of a little girl jumping rope. We call her "Little Karen" because it reminds me of myself when I was young! Ha!

    1. I always thought it'd be fun to have bronze statues of our boys out in their old play yard! Your "Little Karen" sculpture sounds great. I'm glad to know we aren't out of the ordinary to pose our children with statues (or ourselves!) ☺

  2. Cathy, I am quite intrigued by the sculpture garden of famous paintings in NJ. I had not heard of the Grounds for Sculpture. This looks amazing. We have seen many of the other statues you have posted. We were in Colonial Williamsburg recently and always delight in the bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson in Market Square. There is quite a collection in Smithfield Va that was donated by the Luter family. It's always fun to take photos of the family with these amazing works of art. ♥

    1. Martha Ellen, We are planning another stop at Grounds for Sculpture in June on our way to the Gladys Taber Reunion. I plan to do a post about it after that trip. We've been to the Newport News area before but never to Smithfield. It looks quite interesting. We'll have to put it on our list the next time we're down that way.

    1. The gardens at Grounds for Sculpture are in and of themselves worth visiting. If you look for the paintings on-line you will see just how "realistic" the sculptures are.
