A New Year A New Blog

As those of you who have been following my web journal for some time know, I spent last year illustrating my story Gabriel's Tale.  Each month I posted my illustrations with snippets from the story.  Now, as promised, I've posted the entire story on Poetry and Gabriel's new web journal:  The Adventures of Poetry & Gabriel. . . .

I have also posted the sequel:  Poetry and Gabriel in Scotland.  You can find both stories in the sidebar on the new web journal.

The delay in doing this is due to the fact that you really must first read the Prequel: The Adventures of Poetry the Calico Cat.  I used Apple's iWeb template to design the website in 2011 and posted a new story every month in 2012.  Over the years the sound and animated gifs became out of date and would not play.  This past year one of my sons has been updating the html for me so that everything is working once again.  Please note that if you use Safari as your browser the automatic gifs will not work unless you disable Safari's automatic disable setting.  Instructions on how to override the disable setting just for Poetry's and Gabriel's website are included at the link above.

When you visit the website you will find 14 short stories about Poetry and her best friend Gabriel the Snowman.  Many of the characters you met in Gabriel's Tale are introduced in the stories in the Prequel.  I started writing these stories in 1997 as my oldest child was going off to college.  They were an outlet to help me cope with this big change in my life.  Then in 2007 Poetry got cancer and passed away at age 13.  I was bereft.  Finding another cat to replace her just didn't seem possible, so I got a dog instead and named him Gabriel.  The next year I found another calico cat that I named "Poetry, Too".  I can't begin to tell you how much Poetry and Gabriel have added to my life!  But I will try by showing you in their new web journal how special they are to me.

My other news is that in May Ken and I will be attending Susan Branch's Bring Your Own Picnic event.  This will be my first trip to England so I'm pretty excited about it.  Watch for a Poetry and Gabriel in the Lake District story soon afterwards.

I hope you will visit The Adventures of Poetry & Gabriel and sign-up to receive future posts.  See you there!

  1. Cathy, I'm glad to have read the story behind Poetry, she was a real part of your family; it's no wonder her loss broke your heart. But I see that Gabriel and the "NEW" Poetry have become a joyful part of your life and now, they even have their own book series. It is very generous of you to share the entire story on your blog.
Now, Lucky you, going to England for the first time! You will have tales to tell after that..

    1. I'm excited to be able to take my own photos to "illustrate" the new story I want to write. I'm very happy to share my stories on the Web and especially love that I could put links in Poetry & Gabriel in Scotland to enhance the story. Since getting a publisher for my stories doesn't seem a likelihood, this was the only way to get them out there. Thanks for taking a look. ❤️

    1. Thank you, Martha Ellen. I'm gleaning ideas from your posts about your travels in England, so if you have any tips to make the travel itself better, things to avoid or look for, etc., I hope you will write about it. ❤️

  5. Cathy, I am PEA GREEN with envy - no kidding. You're going to England - & at the same time as Prince Harry's wedding too! I know Susan's trip was planned before the engagement happened & how lucky was that!! So will you be there before the wedding? Hope so - you'll get to experience all the excitement & festivities! As if visiting England isn't exciting enough of course! That's one place I'd really like to see. I bet your trip will be very "A Fine Romance"-like. Are you & Ken going to rent a car & bop around on your own - or will you be on an organized tour? Too exciting - really. I hope you keep us as informed about your plans & preparations as Susan did. It's almost like going on the trip myself - I can't wait. PS - now I'm headed over to the Poetry & Gabriel site to get caught up. Have a great week!

    1. Hi Janet. We are going it alone but sticking to trains, buses, and walking. Staying in the Lake District only for 8 days plus travel. We'll fly into Manchester so don't know how much wedding festivities we'll see. Will be back home by the wedding day. I will post about the trip once I get home. ❤️

  6. That's a wonderful picture of Gabriel and Poetry! If only Tavi and Jackson were such good friends. I have added their blog site to my list, but as I am well behind reading blog posts I will wait until I have more time to enjoy their tales. Sarah x

    1. After Poetry was rescued she was fostered in a household of dogs so I knew before I adopted her that she would be able to "put up" with Gabriel. She quickly showed him she was superior in many ways! Jumping straight up into the air when need be and onto higher surfaces when available. I love it when they actually play together--stalking and chasing.
