Gabriel's Garden Tour

Hello!  I'm over here on the front stoop!  My name is Gabriel.  Fiona Goosefeathers over at Hopalong Hollow Gazette gave a tour of her Mistress's garden.  Mom thought that was a great idea so she decided since she's been so busy getting ready for her Tasha Tudor Tea she'd ask me to take you on a tour of our garden for her. . . .

We'll start here, from the front porch.   Off to my left. . . .

. . . .is the garden where I found the bunnies. . . .

This is the path that I took to where the bunnies were. . . .

Ok, let's go this way. . . .

This is one of the new brick walkways Mom put in earlier this summer. . . .

They go all through the garden now. . . .

Mom did not expect the Dahlias to get this big. . . .

The Gardinia "tree" is getting ready for a second bloom. . . .

I'll take you into the Arbor now.  See the new trellis Mom found at a yard sale for $5.  The lady even offered to deliver it.  Mom spray painted it to try to make it look antique.  She's waiting for the rose bush to cover it up now. . . .

We're in the Arbor Garden now.  The Silver Lace Vine does look like lace doesn't it. . . .

That's not a real chicken, in case you were wondering.  You can be sure I'd not let an ol' chicken in MY garden. . . .

This is the kitchen window Mom always takes her photo from for her monthly View Outside My Kitchen Window post.   Two hummingbirds have been visiting the Fushia. . . .

Hey!  I'm back here now at the back of the Arbor.   Can you see me?. . . .

OK.  Back to business.  I'll show you the rest of the front yard garden. . . .

That's the new thornless rose Mom got for $5 from Lowe's clearance section.  Dad had to dig a hole and put in a new garden bed for it. . . .

This is to the left as you enter the Arbor Garden. . . .

See the new wrought-iron fence Mom found at an antiques store.  It almost didn't fit in the car!  They had to drive with the seat all the way forward.  Good thing I wasn't along for that trip. . . .

This is to the right as you enter the Arbor Garden. . . .

Well, that's about it.  Thank you for touring our garden with us.  I'll lead you down the front steps. . . .

Be careful.  The steps are a bit uneven. . . .

 Bye!  Thanks for coming. . . .

  1. You have a spectacular garden! Gabriel did a terrific job as a tour guide. If it had been Fergus he would have tried to mark every single plant on the tour. I'm sure Gabriel is much more civilized. :-)

    1. Thank you Kristie. Rest assured. Gabriel has well-marked the garden as his already. There is a "Beware Westie" sign on the front gate (translation: do not enter unless invited!)

  2. This made me smile - Gabriel gave us such a good tour and was just what I needed. Your garden looks fantastic with so many interesting corners. I love the wrought iron fence too. Sarah x

    1. Thank you, Sarah. I'm glad Gabriel made you smile. I'm thinking Angel Daisy is smiling, too, and will be directing another Westie into your life when the time is right. I couldn't get Gabriel to smile for any of the photos. The only time he smiles is when he's running. Gardens are nice, but too confining.

  3. Gabriel, how nice of you to take me on a tour of your Mom's garden. It's quite lovely. She certainly got a bargain on her trellis--$5 -are you kidding me? Your Mom works quite hard to have such a lovely neat garden filled with beautiful flowers. The wrought iron fence is quite interesting and adds a bit of antiquity to this space. Thanks for being such a nice guide, Gabriel. ♥

    1. Yes, she does work quite hard and I help her by keeping guard over her. Sometimes she lets me go outside the fence with her to the garden shed. I always follow her back except for that time I saw a rabbit run off into the neighbor's yard.....and then there was that squirrel.....and the other neighbor's dog out in the lane.

  4. Gabriel gave a great tour! My dogs would never have been able to stay on task with all the squirrels we have in the yard! I am with Martha Ellen.....$5????? What a wonderful buy! It is charming! My favorite things are the wonderful vining and trailing plants. Love to see climbing roses and ivy growing up a house! Someday, someday......I hope I can live where it rains....until then I will just enjoy your garden.

    1. I know how you feel, Chris. We have periods when there is no rain and too much sun. My garden turns pale and withered, but I keep trying and plant things that I know won't survive to the end of the season.

  5. Love your gardens, Cathy. Have to use the plural but the singular just doesn't seem right. So many interesting little corners and features everywhere. It's clear you put in a mountain of work over the years but how satisfying it must be to look out on it every day. Please tell Gabriel what a very fine tour guide he was. Those Westies are so protective and responsible. We still miss Teddy, a Westie who was my best friend's childhood dog. Love all your bargain hunter pieces too. Isn't it great to find something you really wanted and at a rock-bottom price to boot? Makes the experience even better. And boy will your trellis look beautiful once the roses start climbing over it! Are you ready for Fall? I love it, it's my favorite season - but I feel like Summer just started a couple of weeks ago! Take care and talk to you soon.

    1. Yes, I'm ready for Autumn! At this point the garden is all about deadheading to keep it neat. It's more work than pleasure. May and June are always the best months. Then I'm ready for Autumn to come.

  6. Gabriel ~ I think you have found your vocation ~ this was an exceedingly pleasant tour of your garden, and I'm so pleased your Mom helps you from time to time, keeping it so well tended and cared for. I look forward to our next tour with you in great anticipation! Waving ~~~

    1. Deborah, Gabriel asked me to type his reply since his paws cannot manage a keyboard very well......He says thank you! And that you're welcomed to visit our garden anytime you like! arf arf

  7. Well done, Gabriel! I enjoyed your pup-sized view of things. You certainly have lots of pathways to keep you busy and lots of happy sniffing opportunities to enjoy there. You are one lucky pup!
Thanks so much for the tour!
P.S. You can tell your mom, I have seen dahlia blooms the size of dinner plates in some gardens. I do love the color of hers.
